In 2005 he was elected as a Buckinghamshire County Councillor representing Marlow and he currently serves as a member of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Children’s Services, which includes schools.   He is very proud of the extremely high standard of education in Buckinghamshire, the achievements of which, year on year, are consistently higher than the National average.   He also serves on the Overview and Scrutiny on Adult Services and represents Marlow on the committee overseeing the recently introduced Civil Enforcement area for parking.   Additionally, as a Councillor, he represents the various Councils on several outside committees and organisations based in Marlow.   He is currently a Governor of the Berkshire College of Agriculture in Burchetts Green, Berkshire.   He is the local authority representative for, and a Director of, Padstones, a charity caring for homeless young people.   Doug has worked tirelessly for a number of local charities and visits local schools and hospitals on a regular basis, most notably at Easter and Christmas.

In 1998 Doug was awarded an MBE for his charity work with children and the elderly over the last 20 years.

Looking to the future, Doug wants to use his years of local experience and expertise to continue serving and representing the people of Marlow.   He also intends to increase his Charity work and become more involved in activities for children, including heading up a campaign for a children’s hospice.
